Hello everyone, welcome to another video, today we are taking a look at ‘California Games’ and recreating the marketing graphic for the video game. This will mark the beginning of a series that I will be creating on the channel, this would involve looking at various retro games and improving the marketing graphics for each of the retro games that I play through.
So, today I played the original ‘California Games’ for the first time, after being told the controls by Purple of course.

My first impressions of the game were rather positive, with the basis of the game appearing simple, alongside the engaging music in the background. It was far more unusual to the games that I am used to! California Games is a retro competitive tournament style game, this was rather enjoyable after i got the hang of it but i found it really difficult at the start.

Within this video, I was able to improve my score every round and find out how to complete each event. The only one i found tricky to understand was the surfing one because i didn’t know how to score points.

Another part that I really enjoyed about playing through ‘California Games’ was the constant engagement. I was constantly wanting to play on and continue whenever I died because I wanted to achieve a better score and wanted to make my way further than I had gone previously.

After gaining an idea of the game, I was able to conduct some research into the marketing material that was utilised to advertise the game in 1980’s. This then enabled me to Recreate the marketing materials and make them look better, using more modern editing programmes like Photoshop.

I hope you all enjoyed todays video, I have really enjoyed editing and recording it. Feel free to comment down below any retro games that you would like to see me recreate marketing materials for. Thank you very much for watching!!
