For this week’s game review, I reviewed a game called Slime Rancher. This is a 1st person adventure game where the player aims to collect all the slimes without dying.

When I first loaded this game, I saw that you could have many saves. This is a really good feature because it meant that if many people shared an Xbox, they could have a different save file meaning that they can each play their own game.

When I created my ranch, I saw that there was a tutorial which followed me through the game. This tutorial did explain that the aim is for me to explore and experiment, but the tutorial kept coming back and giving me hints which helped me when I got stuck. This was really cool because exploring is very enjoyable but whenever you didn’t know what to do, it came and told you. In addition to this, if you paused the game, there was a menu that showed me everything I needed to know about my slimes, buildings and I could even see the tutorial. This enabled me to directly see 1 section of a tutorial without having to see it all (eg. Controls, what the aim is, where to go).

The graphics on this game are very fitting. They are nice looking graphics, but they still make the game look unrealistic which is good. This is good because the game is unrealistic and funny. The graphics do a great job of reflecting that whilst still making the game look very nice. The graphics also don’t hurt your eyes and the brightness can easily be adjusted in settings.

The aim of this game is to explore and collect many different types of slimes. You then need to bring these slimes back to your ranch. You can buy new areas, upgrades and plots using the in-game currency. To get this currency, you need to bring the slimes to your ranch and feed them. They will drop a plort of their kind which can then be cashed in for amounts of money at the market.

The market in this game changes its values. This is very cool because it has a very realistic supply and demand type feature. This means that the price plorts sell for can increase or decrease at random points. Each slime type will drop a different type of plort, plorts from an easy-to-get slime sell for little money but the plorts from valuable slimes sell for a lot. This is very cool because it means that you gain a lot from adventuring and capturing new slimes. To get the plorts, you have to feed the slimes. This can be done by finding food in the wild or growing some at your base. Different types of slimes require different types of food (eg. Vegetables, fruits, meat). This is a very cool and realistic feature.

The farms, which you can get at your base, can have many upgrades to make a harvest give you more, crops grow faster and slimes wont run and steal crops. This is very cool because it gives the player a reward for spending time to grind for better gear.

The slimes in this game were very cool and had some realistic features. If I put a blue slime in an enclosure with a pink slime, they would eventually merge to make a cross breed. This was very cool because it meant that you can then farm slimes a lot easier by merging a slime (that needs meet) with a slime (that needs fruit) to make a cross breed. That breed would then be able to eat either meat or fruit which is good because if I can’t get meat, I gam feed it fruit.

Overall, I would rate this game 5/5 stars.
