For this weeks game review, I reviewed a game called Art of Rally. This is a 3rd person driving game.

When I first loaded up, I saw that the loading screen was a picture of a labelled Xbox controller chowing me the controls of the game. This was quite good because it meant that I knew how to drive the car before I actually had to. There wasn’t a tutorial (other than the loading screen). This is bad because it can be easier to learn controls from a tutorial but the screen did show everything so I could remember the main required controls.

After the game had loaded up, I saw that it took me straight into a game. There wasn’t any guide to tell me what to do so I was quite confused. After a lot of driving around and figuring out my goal I went back to menu. Ta the menu, there were many options of game modes I wanted to play. I chose to play the career mode. This was a mode where the player competed in races and unlocked brand new cars from doing well and progressing. At 1st there was only 1 race unlocked but after a match, I could do a different map or retry the 1st one. This was very good because it meant that the player could redo a match if they did bad or just wanted a better time on it.

The graphics in this game are ok. Whilst they are not the best, you can easily tell what everything is and it doesn’t hurt your eyes. There were many sticks in the ground (like tree stumps) but no leaves which was quite confusing but you could tell what everything else was. In addition, the people who were spectating were colourd strips with a head on top. You could tell that they were meant to be people by the way they ran from my car as I got close but they were quite confusing at first.

Whilst playing the game, I realised that all the cars seemed to constantly skid out of control from a slight move. Even when I would slow my car down, it would still slide around causing me to go off track. The sliding feature is very cool because it is realistic and stops you from going full speed everywhere but it would be better if you skidded a little less often.

Whenever I would go behind an object, the game would show a outline of my car to me so that I could still see where I was and where to go. This is very good because it means that if I go behind a tree, I can easily find my way out and continue with the game.

Overall, I would rate this game 2.5/5 stars.
