For this week’s game review, I reviewed a game called Mist. This is a 1st person solo adventure and puzzle game.
When I loaded the game up, I saw that there was a brief tutorial. This was very good because it told me the games controls but it didn’t show me everything. This means that I knew how to play the basic game but I needed to figure the rest out. This is especially good for a puzzle game because it was making me work the controls out.
Whilst playing the game, I saw that there are many things I could do at once. This was very good because everyone’s experience will be different and if you get stuck on 1 stage, you could go and do another section. The other section could sometimes release an extra clue to make another section easier so they all link in together whilst being possible to do in any order. Although they were in different sections, they were all together. You couldn’t tell that a certain building for a certain puzzle because the building would have clues for multiple different sections. The buildings were also at random places so you couldn’t easily tell. Overall, this make the game more fun because there is a challenge.
When I loaded the game up, I also realised that there are multiple save slots and customisable controls. The save slots are great because if multiple people share the same Xbox, they can al play their own game without effecting the other games. The customisable controls are very good because if you are struggling with the default controls, you could change them to fit your needs. In addition, if you got stuck you could just look at controls to remind yourself on how to move around/do what you want to do.
This game had great graphics and it looked very nice. The trees looked realistic, and the grass looked perfect. Even the rocks and rubble look like real life. Whilst it looks really nice, it doesn’t even lag your game. This is very good because most great graphic games on Xbox can start to cause you lag. If you do start to lag however, you can turn the graphics down in the settings menu.
When you get stuck, the game shows you clues like an extra map or something to show the way. This is very cool because it means that if I do get stuck on all the different sections, I can get a tip and then continue. Whilst its unlikely that I will get stuck because the many sections and interlocking puzzles, it is still a nice feature in case I do die.
Overall, I would rate this game 5/5 stars.
